Flower Power: The Perfect Morning at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad

Well San Diego, it’s that time of the year again. You know what I’m talking about, it’s bloom time! While San Diego has no shortage of beautiful places to visit, during the spring it’s a must that you add the Flower Fields in Carlsbad to the top of your list. If you’re wondering how to make the most of your time look no further, we have the low down on the Flower Fields.

Early spring brings excitement as the famous Flower Fields opens its gates to thousands of visitors looking to see beautiful rows of Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. The theme for this year is "Escape Into Color" which is totally fitting as the Flower Fields consist of 50 acres of vibrant white, orange, pink, red, and yellow flowers. It’s the perfect place to spend a morning in Carlsbad. If you’re planning a visit here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

Tickets are not for sale onsite.

You’ll need to make a reservation. There are a certain number of tickets available for each entry period. We suggest you get tickets for the first slot of the day: 9 - 9:30. Since you’ll be amongst some of the first to enter the Field you’ll be able to take all of the photos you want without having to worry about too many folks in the background of your photos. Once you enter head directly for the Fields you can come back and see all of the other stuff later, trust us you’ll be happy you listened. Admission tickets can be purchased directly from the Flower Fields’ website.

Bringing essentials are a must, here's what we recommend:

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen are an absolute must.

  • A fully charged phone and/or camera. There are a ton of cute things to take photos of, you wouldn't want to miss out by not being prepared. While we are on the subject of photos it wouldn't hurt to also bring a tripod or selfie stick.

  • Shoes that you’re ok with getting a little dirty. You won’t find paved sidewalks here, it’s a field so there’s definitely dirt.

  • Water bottle

While you’re there be sure to:

  • Take lots of photos. People come from all over to take photos amongst the beautiful ranunculus. Did you know that you can even schedule a photoshoot at the Fields? Well you can but even if you don’t go that far you can definitely get creative. There are those who even bring different outfits to get a variety of photos. Those people are the real MVPs.

  • Take a tractor wagon ride. You’ll have to wait until you arrive to purchase your seats (cash is not accepted) but after walking around for hours you will definitely appreciate the opportunity to sit for a bit. As you ride through the fields the host will share with you the history of the Flower Fields.

  • Check out the family fun attractions. At the Fields you’ll find Santa’s playground, a cute area for the kids to take a break to run around a bit.

  • Pick blueberries. There’s a u-pick blueberry patch that you can visit while at the Fields. Spanning over 2 acres, you can pick until your heart's content. You won’t need to pay anything additional for this experience as it’s included in your admission. However, if you want to just visit without visiting the Flower Field you can get into the blueberry patch for free through a separate entrance and parking lot.

  • See the petunias. Each year the petunias in red, white, and blue are planted in the design of the American flag.

You see, there’s a whole lot to see and do at the flowers and this isn’t even a complete list. Before you buy your tickets be sure to check out their calendar of events. This is surely an experience you’ll remember for years to come. If you want to make the day last a little longer stop by the garden center gift shop and grab some flowers to take home with you.

Not ready for the fun to end? It doesn’t have to. Contact us to schedule a luxury picnic in Carlsbad and enjoy a delicious lunch while you take in the beautiful views of the ocean.
